My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Nepal | Thursday, October 14, 2010 | 4 photos
Max came into my life in 2004. Max was my first camera. Since then, I see the world and the people in it very differently. I see it with a cheek-slapping clarity that I never had before. I see framed moments that I need to keep with me forever. I now know what passion feels like. Photography is my passion and it has been since I met Max. My cameras and I have spent our time capturing those tiny grains of time, which can so easily slip away without photography.
Nepal is a country of contradictions. For such a poor nation, they are certainly rich with laughter. It is a land locked country, yet this is where the rivers which feed the oceans are born.
My story however, focuses on the contradiction of size and how beauty within this country is not only found in the overwhelming mountains, but can also be seen in intricate details. Nepal is beautiful at every level; whether it’s small prayer flags which represent the vast religious beliefs, a little boy leading a large heard of sacrificial goats, or a minute inscription within one of their huge temples. Even the view from the highest mountain pass in the world, ensures you realise that you are a mere speck within the monstrous and beautiful surrounds.
These four photos tell my story of Nepal. My dream is to share many more photographic stories with many more people. Much of my passion lies in the knowledge that my photographs can convey powerful meanings for other people. The prospect of knowing that my photos could inspire joy in others in the same way as other photographers have done for me is extremely exciting. The opportunity this scholarship provides would allow me to seriously consider photography as something much more than just a hobby.
I thank you for the opportunity to chase my passion.
