July Update

AUSTRALIA | Monday, 16 July 2007 | Views [568]

And, there I was, thinking that I had clearly advised all and sundry, well the readers (if any) of this journal, that we would be leaving on the 16th August.  Today, which is the 16th of July, I have received no less that three 'phone calls wishing us the "...best for our holiday..." or simply "...Bon Voyage..." Well People, we aint left yet.

Just so as you know we still have the downstairs (rumpus) room conversion to a spare bed-proom to complete...tiling some floor areas, putting in walls, sheeting them and painting the whole room...etc, etc.

Then there is the mandatory Doctor visit so that we can still continue to rattle every  morning after taking our daily pills...we will get Reg 24 which allows all the prescriptions and their repeats to be issued at the one time. We also need a letter from our respective Doctor saying what this heap of pills are for and that they have been "legally" prescribed...just for nosy customs officers...

We still have to buy some suitable light underwear (for washing en-trip) because the disposable underwear we used last time is not available in Australia...paper under-dacks which one throws away each day...

Then we still have to clean up all our private affairs, pay the bills buy a truck-load of cat food (so the neighbour can feed her whilst we are away)...fifty-nine days...a S/load of cat foor!

Also on the things-to-do-list is to buy some new luggage...with all my trips to Indonesia, and our last few holidays...all the feet/wheels/handles and the cases themselves have suffered damage...so we are now looking for really light-weight Super Strong luggage.

Which is another point...we are investigating the latest Fujitsu Lifebook Tablet computer U1010 which has a keyboard, Runs M/Soft Vista, all and everything one need for a travelling PC and it is only about 8 inches square and about 1/1/2 inches thick...best of all it only weighs POINT Six of a Kilo which is a huge difference when compared with my Toshiba Tecra/bag/etc which comes in at about 7.5 kilos all up and I need a 'large' suitcase to put it in because it is 20X20X2 inches BIG.

Update 17 July...You wouldn't credit it but there are NO examples of this computer available in Brisbane!!!!  They expect one to buy it sight-unseen from some mail-order house!!! Not this little Balck Duck!

We also will have to do a 'dump-run' to clear a lot of old timber, boxes and household junk that has accumilated since we moved in...about one large truck load should do it.

Last things to do is to put the car batteries under charge then disconnect the earth connection...last trip we were away for two months and simply reconnected the car earths and bingo! both the car and the Truck started first pop...no point in running the cars' internal computers, sensors, whatever, just kills the batteries.

I dare say that I will be able to include another Journal entry before we depart...mainly to confirm itinerary details and flight numbers/times for those who we will meet up with or who will collect us from various airports.

Cheers,

Lynne and Patricia
