My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Indonesia | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | flickr photos

As an aspiring photographer, I believe winning the Scholarship would greatly assist with learning how to use photography to capture moments and communicate ideas about a place or its inhabitants.
I am subconsciously driven to follow my late grandfather’s footsteps, who in Malaysia, opened the first photography studio in his town. I believe this gives me the energy and focus to tell stories with photography.
My current journey is to finish a Diploma in Photography and become a professional photographer. The scholarship would mean a lot to me since I could learn on-site from a National Geographic professional, galvanizing my theoretical studies.
Previously, I was working for 10 years in banking in a reporting function. This will help with writing the required travel diaries.
In the past I have volunteered as a photographer, covering corporate volunteering events, and donating some of my works under charity art auctions to raise money in 2007 & 2008 for the Children’s Hospital and in 2009 for the Victorian bush fire victims. I believe the Scholarship will improve my photographic story telling skills and allow me to create greater community awareness of the Earth and its inhabitants.
