My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Monday, November 7, 2011 | 5 photos

As much as I would like to photograph wild animals in their natural habitat in Africa, a beautiful fall day in Toronto turned out to be a fun photography exercise for me. The animals at the local zoo don’t need to hunt; they don’t need to fight for territory either. They are not hungry, nor cold. They have been taken care of. They were out to show off their beauty and pose for us – the people with cameras. At least the polar bear was showing off, that’s for sure.

Two passions in my life - travel and photography, ok maybe four (not to miss yoga and wine). I believe that every small village in this world is worth visiting, every culture is worth experiencing, every mountain is worth photographing. And I do love adventures. My life is an adventure. In the past 10 years I have lived in Cape Cod, Hawaii, San Francisco, Vancouver and Toronto. No matter where I’ll be tomorrow I’ll have a map in one hand, camera in the other.

I am a beginner in the art of photography. I’ve got this big camera with manual setting that I still don’t know how to use. So imagine me standing in front of a church. I set my settings and shoot. Right away I look at the small screen on my camera. The picture is too dark. I change the settings and shoot again. Still don’t like the picture. An hour later I change the camera mode to automatic and take a picture just to make sure I got one right. I know I’ll master the settings on my camera but there is so much more I need to learn.

Jason, it would be an honor to learn from the best.

Cheers.
