My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited: Yakmen Family

Salut, my name is Nikolai. Of Belarus origin I live and work in Montreal now. Linguist and industrial designer by education and career, I had an experience that changed my world view.

I had this hobby on the side called Urban Exploration where I started to document my climbing and unique POVs over a city, so I got a camera with manual controls. From then on I started exploring the city streets and its characters while learning new approaches to the medium. It happened so that at work I had spare time to read and so I studied the world, people and ecological issues that surround us.

I have begun to volunteer for community media and cover the local issues while honing my vision. At this point my goal is to cover the ecological issues and shed light on what is usually left out the mainstream while our habitat is destroyed. I left my zone of comfort and traveled to harsher places to experience the issues first hand. Now I can attest to my fitness level and expect no mercy from Jason as his armor-bearer.

My goal is learning Jason’s approach to storytelling and creating value through photography work.
