Pace of India slow-medium-&-fast

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Thursday, October 27, 2011 | flickr photos

I was 10 when I went for a painting competition with a friend to give him company. On his request I participated and to everyone’s surprise I won second prize. My parents saw a budding Picasso and fully encouraged me while I painted quite regularly. My interests moved from landscape to market place to caricatures and finally after taking inspiration from Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic the movie, I secretly started painting nudes. When once such piece of art got into the hands of my mother during a random cleaning, the budding Picasso had give up painting and focus on high school studies.

Next 15 years went by pretty rapidly in education and career growth and I hardly got a chance to paint. But probably it was wise to establish financially by following a less risky path than to try making a living as an artist.

It was last year in August when the creative me which was all the time yearning to express, got the better of the working class hero. I had gone to Mumbai for a training course. The first two days of the training got cancelled leaving me enough time to move around with a camera. The serendipity had struck for second time.

The photographs (in the flickr set) were clicked during this tour. There is a bigger set (Mumbai-Nashik 2010) with all pictures of the tour but due to competition rule I am submitting the one with best 5. Although given a chance I would like to show each one of the 91 pieces of art that I have uploaded on flickr till date :-).

Mumbai is said to be fastest city of India. Its also the financial and fashion hub of the country. But I could catch other shades of the city and the suburb where life wasn’t that fast. And that is how I think life should be.

I am really hoping that I will get shortlisted for this opportunity and I will get chance to explore my creativity and also satisfy the other desire; that is to work for the nature.
