Garden of Dreams

Rest in Kathmandu
The Garden of Dreams is a walled-off garden in Tridevi Marg at the entrance to the Thamel area in Kathmandu. It costs 160NRs for foreigners to get in ($A3), but it is well worth it if you take a book or the newspaper and spend an afternoon relaxing. The garden was originally built in the early 1900's, then went into a state of disrepair. It was restored about 10 years ago (not quite as big as it used to be) and is now maintained really well. As you can see from the photos there are lawned areas as well as nooks with garden seats to sit in the shade. There is a good display of before-and-after photos showing the original gardens, gardens in disrepair and the current gardens. This is a great escape from the Thamel maze of alleyways.
