My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

It was 1993, I was 10 years old, and I had spent the last year saving up ALL of my money (which totaled $65.00) for one reason: to buy a Minolta 35 mm camera. Most kids want to grow up to be a ballerina or fireman, but there were only three answers I ever gave: 1.) a paleoanthropologist, 2.) a National Geographic photographer, and 3.) a health care provider. National Geographic played a part in them all. Every Sunday night, my Dad and I watched NG, where I first learned the word “paleoanthropologist”. I also collected old NG magazines that had been put in the free bin at the local library. In these magazines I first saw photos that captured the beauty of other cultures and inspired me with the idea of providing health care for individuals in 3rd world countries. Eventually, I chose health care and became a nurse anesthetist, but the love of photography, travel, and adventure never died. I have wondered if I might have a chance at a second (photography) career and if I might ever be able to learn enough to fulfill my other dream of taking pictures for National Geographic. It would be a true honor and a lifelong dream-come-true to have this opportunity.Thank you for considering me.
