My Scholarship entry - Giving back on the road

I made my first flight when I was only 2 months old: 1700 kilometers, 3 hours in the air. I left my parents' native city in Belarus and came to the village on the outskirts of Russia. Since that time the joy of wandering have ruled my mind. I have changed 5 places of residence and 6 schools. I tried to enter the university to become an actress. But I failed.
Failed actress at the bottom of my heart made me go and see Cannes. The ticket to the plain was too expensive and I went there by bus. Many hours left and I finally arrived: Cote d'Azur, palm trees and splendid architecture. The bus stopped at the wharf with charming French name “Promenade de la Croisette”. I went to the left, passed through several buildings, then turned to the left again and it was there! Famous red carpet. My dress wasn’t made by famous fashion designer and I have a bottle with mineral water instead of Oscar, but this place made me believe that I’m a real actress. I heard thunderous applause in my mind but I knew I have to go back on the road.
Cars were burning up the road, raising clouds of smoke and taking away dreams of distant travels. Freckled girl (it’s me again) was standing by the wayside with the outstretched right arm. My palm is in a fist, the thumb is up. Next destination point is Prague.
- As-tu attendu longtemps?– asked in French the Ford car that unexpectedly stopped near me. Of course it wasn’t the car itself; it was the driver. But the car snorted so funny that it seemed it also wanted to join the dialogue.
- Do you speak English? – I asked him in response.
- How long have you been waiting? – The driver translated.
- 3 hours 27 minutes. – I looked at my watch and answered.
- Far away?
- Yes. Prague. Czech Republic.
- Plain as a pikestaff, that not in France. Buy a lottery ticket!
- Why?
- Because you’re lucky. I go there too. With such luck you’ll certainly win one million euro. I’m Andre. Get into the car. I’ll give you a lift.
And I gave back on the road. Again.
