A plethora of seafood is caught, cooked and sold every night to gaggles of tourists and locals in Stonetown square, usually fresh but sometimes questionable. Also available are crepes, samosas, gyros and sugar cane juice if you get thirsty.

Stonetown is full of activity, but the humidity coupled with the fierce African sun makes too much walking around exhausting. In order to cool off and have some fun, local boys constantly hold jumping contests for hours off the quay.

Getting lost in the architecture of Stonetown is impossible to avoid if you don't live there. Maps are useless in this maze of narrow stone alleys––down one lane might be a row of bustling craft shops, but make one turn and you may be alone. Here some children wait for random passerby to snicker and gawk at.
