Currently, I am studying Film and Spanish at Cal State Long Beach in Southern California. I've always been a creative individual, and I love working with the challenges that film presents. There's never a dull moment on set when you love the craft as much as I do. I also chose to study Spanish because half of my family is from Mexico, which instilled a great passion for Latin American culture in me. Along with wanting to become bilingual, I also love studying the culture and traditions. What most interests me about Mexican culture is the Dia de los Muertos holiday and the folk art that encompasses it; I have always found both so mesmerizing and beautiful.
At Long Beach I have been fortunate enough to work on a number of student films, including a stop motion animated short film I created and shot with friends, both digitally and on 16mm film. I love to incorporate my cultural experiences in every project that I work on. In the future, I would like to pursue a career in independent filmmaking and/or stop motion animation.
Winning this travel scholarship would mean everything to me. It would be a chance for me to exercise the knowledge and passion that I have for filmmaking while intimately exploring my Mexican roots. Being given this opportunity would allow me to not only better my story telling skills with the help of Brian Rapsey, but allow me to apply these skills to make immersive travel videos about one of the most culture-rich holidays in the world.
