A piece of New York

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Saturday, August 14, 2010 | 5 photos

New York City is filled with tourists. There are loads of wonderful sights to see and capture but I try to photgraph the city in a way that most people, including locals, fail to see. I love to wander through the streets of Greenwich Village and shoot themes. I have shot signs, balconies, bars and this case, fire escapes. I have travelled extensively, Israel, Turkey, Spain, France, UK, Vietnam, China and many other places I try and capture the local essence as well as the usual touristic venues. I consider myself an advanced amature photographer. Though I am 60 years old I am extremely fit and hike most weekends. On May 1st, I joined a walk around Manhattan -- 31 miles -- with no problems. I have an interesting background. I was a coal miner in Scotland, worked on a kibbutz for 18 months and emigrated to the US in 1979. My travels and experience give me an oultlook on life that very few of my peers have. I am not usually judgemental and instead try to put myself in others shoes. Thanks for considering me.
