My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Background FYI:
When my wife and I spent a 1-week vacation in New England last year, we started out on a rainy day in New York City. The atmosphere was somewhat thrilling - although I am not a fan of rainy weather. Much of the city was "occupied" by bicycle riders and wherever you went, they'd be all around. So I decided to take a few shots - many of them in monochrome.
STORY:
The pictures I chose for my entry tell the story of one person's unfortunate day.
1. It was a cloudy morning, the air was fresh, Hudson River and Manhatten showed off. A beautiful day, really. Would the skies open up and let the sun through? Or would they close in on the city? Everything was possible.
2. Mr Wang decides to go for the healthy mode of transport. Speeding up his bicycle he hits the roads of awakening Manhattan.
3. The roads are wet and not everyone is equally awake this morning. Mr Kumar has be driving people around town all night. He is looking forward to go through the door to his apartment and finally get some sleep after a long and hard night's work in the city as he approaches yet another Manhattan crossroad. It's raining again.
4. Just moments later everything changes as the two men's paths cross. Mr Kumar is far from sleepy. Mr Wang will not reach his original destination. The emergency team of the FDNY Ambulance rushes away to save the young man's life. There is some hope.
5. Days later Mr Wang's last journey ends. Peacefully. On a sunny day. What do YOU see?
