My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

In every human there’s a intrinsic need for freedom, and throughout the ages, the desire of flight was always the ultimate representation of that feeling. For me, that was enhanced by my big brother, that, when I was 11 told me that the air-force would be my access to the stars, a pathway to an astronaut career. Today, at 30 years of age, that is an unfulfilled dream, a checkpoint unmarked.
In 2010 I had my first opportunity to be in an air-show. The Portuguese air-force opened access to the F-16-A Jaguar squadron on Madeira Island’s airport. They were celebrating their 58th anniversary, and I was a little boy again, running around, feeling the atmosphere and enjoying my favourite hobby, photography. I wanted to take photos that when I looked at them later on, made me feel that I was part of that forgotten dream. And they do, they remember me that I had my day among birds.
This National Geographic Scholarship would be an opportunity to spend 7 days nurturing another dream, photography. Learning, living, experimenting, and framing memories of a unique experience.
