Notes from the highest place in Australia

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Australia | Wednesday, November 2, 2011 | 5 photos

One of the most beautiful and unforgettable places I had been to was Kosciuszko NP. I visited the National Park earlier this year, and it is one of those places worth mentioning to others, especially to nature lovers: you could do activities from fishing, skiing in winter, stargazing, or hiking to the highest summit in Australia.

My photographs try to convey a sense of place that I experienced during my visit. Human figures in my photographs are almost compulsory as it turned landscapes into "visual poetry" and giving my audiences extra important informations about the place. Human gestures are also an important element to my photographs; e.g. in both images #2 and #5, where people are the main subject in the photographs, I positioned myself carefully, waited for the peak moment before snapping any pictures. The term "Decisive moment" was invented by Henri Cartier-Bresson, and this is one of the ways to put it.

I am continuously improving my photography as a lifelong learning, which means I'm spending more and more time photographing, not in front of my computer. Although many fellow photographers would call me doing something out of fashion, I still shoot Fuji Velvias and experimenting with filters, push-processing films, taking pictures using very simple SLR cameras from 1980s, and so on. However, whatever camera or lens I was using or having, I treat them an extension of my imagination; I try to interpret scenes in front of my camera the way film/sensor does. My love for travel is of equal importance to that of photography - they coincidentally went well together and they both take me out of my comfort zone and let me learn more about the world: culture, language, history, to name a few.
