My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Chile | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos
I'm Matías. I live in the end of the world: Chile. A magic and not well-known place to practice photography with beautiful landscapes and very different cultures, all along its 5000 kilometers, from the dry desert in the north to the wild jungles of the south.
But my country is also one of the most unequal in the world -in socioeconomics terms- with a lot of people surviving in poverty, thousand of men and women dying every day because of the alcohol and the abandonment, and a lot of injustices, result of "the rules of the game".
I can't close my eyes to it. And I feel that my duty as a photographer is to tell stories with images able to expose all these phenomenon, in all needed places. I'm convinced that no image is innocent and that a good photography can make you feel and understand much more than a thousand statistics. I believe that a photography is a symbol of what we think and what we are (or what we were sometime), so I try to get the best shot of these unknown realities in order to evince them.
My dream is to travel all across the world with my camera, exposing these hidden realities and using my photos to make this world a better place to live.
