My Scholarship entry - Life in brick kilns
Bangladesh | Friday, November 14, 2014 | 5 photos
There are more than 9000 Brick fields in Bangladesh scattered around the country. The industry creates employment opportunity for the poor community where approximately 350,000 workers are employed. Working for 8-10 hours a day in an unhealthy environment these brick kilns emit toxic fumes containing carbon monoxides and oxides of sulfur which are harmful to eye, lungs and throat. Moreover, the Brick field companies are also manipulating statutory regulations by paying these workers much less than what the other industry workers get.
With all these realities surrounding, these uneducated workers, mostly young do have loving bondage among them. Between works they do make time to gossip and smile because they also deserve all the healthy facilities just like any other human being. I like to spend time with people like these who fascinate me. I always see people, places and things differently; and I wish I could do something through my photographs to bring about the true picture story which are around us but not seen. I have the potential in me and the belief that I can do this; but only if I am guided and nurtured professionally. I need this opportunity to make a difference.
