My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Namibia | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | 5 photos

Being born in Zimbabwe and growing up in Cape Town, adventure and storytelling has played a large role in my life. I have been humbled and empowered by the exploration and encounters within remote landscapes, diverse culture and ancient histories of the various destinations I've stumbled upon. Photojournalism is a means of creative escapism for me, a driving passion ignited by the curiosity to discover and learn more about this world I live in. Photography and writing, allows me to interpret life’s experiences, both the breathtaking and the heartbreaking and to share such stories with others. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and as a novice photographer, it is this interpretation of beauty I wish to capture through the lens of my camera and the pen in my hand. The opportunity to travel to Oman and be guided by a photographic veteran of storytelling would be a humbling and awakening experience. Providing me with the professional insight, skills, knowledge and confidence, I require to refine my techniques in order to creatively portray that optimal balance between harmony, humanity and nature. As Helen Keller once said "Never consent to crawl, when one has an impulse to soar"
