My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Angola | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos
These photos were taken a few years ago while I was working and living in Angola. It was my first time to Africa and I wanted to capture all the sights and experiences that were unique to this place. These 5 photographs represent 5 aspects which, in my view, best represent Angola: the exoticism, the violence, the poverty, the joy, and the beauty of the land.
More than just fleeting travel scenes, they made up my daily surroundings during the time that Angola was my home - the monkeys at a chaotic nearby market, the firearms in our factory warehouse's drawer, the ubiquitous garbage piles I passed by on the way downtown, the neighborhood children who loved to see themselves on the camera screen, and the sunset I witnessed while taking a stroll outside the factory in the evenings.
Having lived in 4 continents, I believe there is a wealth of knowledge that can be learned from each place I visit and each person I meet. I have an avid desire to convey the experience of a place through photography and be able to share the story with others. The Bhutan assignment would offer me the opportunity to learn first-hand how a professional photographer fully captures an experience into visual photography, and to take my photography to the next level by using these techniques.
