Your Backyard - Paris, Interrupted

FRANCE | Wednesday, 6 November 2013 | Views [258] | Scholarship Entry

I was born in Bucharest, Romania, where I got my BA in Acting. Last year, I came to do a one year programme at the Conservatoire National D’art Dramatique de Paris.
Paris for me was Nouvelle Vague movies and Poulain. Living in Paris made me go beyond the clichés and discover a real, vibrant society, where many cultures interact. In the same neighborhood you can find so many different perfumes, styles, food and music. The richness comes from everybody’s personal projections of this city. The idea behind “Paris, Interrupted” is to illustrate the bedtime story clichés in a funny, witty way. I am very fond of exploiting these kind of preconceived images, in a way that Woody Allen did in Manhattan or Midnight in Paris. We interviewed several people, but we kept the two that we found most unique and, in the same time, representative for a certain Zeitgeist.
In terms of experience, I’ve filmed in numerous short films and long film “Beyond the hills” by Cristian Mungiu, awarded with 2 Cannes prizes. I teamed up with Maxence Magniez, talented young French DOP. We did it 2 days before the deadline, and had many technical difficulties, but we tried to make the best of it.
