Arctic Canada at a Crossroads

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited: Pangnirtung, Nunavut

Abraham Arnaqaq sets a net along a crack in the ice to catch seal. He anchors the net by tying it to a block of ice over which he pours sea water to freeze it solidly in place. A brilliant yet simple ancient technique. (temp: -40degC)
