Travelling begins your tunnel to light

My Scholarship entry - Everyday Life in New York City

USA | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 5 photos

I once thought travelling was about finding answers, however it presented greater questions in return.

I’m Nathan Ndeira, a 21 year old young man living in suburban Sydney, Australia. Four years ago I fell in love with the art of photography. While I still swim in this area, documenting the lives, experiences and events of others is what makes me truly love it. Up until this year I hadn't travelled by myself. I would have never understood this opportunity before I travelled to the USA in September this year.

Since my travels, I've been able to understand what the value of this scholarship is to me. As a photographer, I’m driven by the unknown. As people, we are pioneers of the future, pioneers of the unknown. To photograph isn't just to capture a moment, or the lives of others for that matter. It’s about documenting the present in hope that the future is a greater shape. Seeing American citizens in everyday life made me realize this notion.

I’m now more passionate about photography, life and experiencing worlds I’ve yet to see. This scholarship is an opportunity to be mentored photographically and as an individual.

Images speak when words cannot. Moments, not days define time
