View of Old Town of Tallinn from City Wall

FINALLY got web access in Russia altho not in Estonia and Finland (would have expected the other way around maybe) so am working off sketchy notes (period of withdrawal from email was terrible - am reading a wonderful book that Miranda gave me in Spain called 'ship of brides' about war brides sailing from Sydney to Britain to be reunited with their husbands in 1946 - they went for weeks without any mail and were desperate to hear from home, and that's how i felt after less than 1 week - a bit pathetic but understandable now that everyone is so connected)

our hotel was in the Old Town of Tallinn, very small city (about 1/2 million out of a total estonian population of 1 million) and charming - paid 3 euros to walk along the top of the old city wall and pretend i was a medieval soldier firing thru arrow slits - big fun and worth every euro cent

after 2 nights in tallinn we all took a short ferry ride to helsinki - in the next story
