got to london on thursday afternoon (will review Virgin Atlantic in another entry) and have been running around like a crazy person ever since

went to the newly-reopened Hotel Savoy for a drink - 14.50 (POUNDS) for any drink + service - so Kate and I did not drink a lot (just 1 drink each) - it is really beautiful - very art deco and wonderful service and they do give a few nibbly things (olives, sugared nuts, etc.) and so it was worth every penny

the next day i had lunch with Tom at ultra-bustling Canary Wharf - gorgeous sunny weather (coming from San Francisco, i've been majorly surprised at how hot and sunny it is everywhere else in the northern hemisphere in August) - and speaking of hemispheres, i then went to Greenwich for the first time ever - pretty cool but i was dragging from jet lag plus the observatory is up at the top of a hill and i was beat by the time i got up there - i did of course get my photo taken straddling the meridian - then took the boat back to Westminster, which was so much fun - great to be on the river on a hot day - very thrilling to go under Tower Bridge - went out for a delicious indian dinner with my high school friend mirilee

on saturday i took the train up to Diss in Norfolk (i think there was also a Datt, but that got lost in the Wash - god i am sooo funny!) to visit Stephanie - we had a great day catching up and sitting in her garden and looking at hundreds of old photos going back to India and previous visits with each other in England and the US - at the end of the day we went to a pub and had drinks outside watching the beginning of a beautiful summer sunset over the flat Norfolk fields

in London i used the busses most of the time because they're just so much fun, especially on top in the front when they make a tight turn - there's a moment where it feels like the whole thing is going to topple over but somehow they never do - London is absolutely packed - especially Oxford Street, where it wasn't possible to see an inch of pavement because people were streaming back and forth in such crowds - kinda cool to watch from the bus but crazy-making when you're actually in it
