Packing List to Keep as Small and Light as Possible

Packing list

Skirt – 1 silk skirt in khaki    

Blouses – 2 silk short-sleeved, one red and one black

T-shirt – cotton short-sleeved, black

Shorts - 1 pair black cotton

Trousers/pant – 1 long pair silk African print black/beige

Underwear (2 bras, 8 pairs of underpants)                                                

Shoes (2 pairs including the one I wore on the plane)    

Slippers (Flip flops)

Peds – 2 pairs (no stockings/pantyhose)

Socks  (6 pairs of white and black)

Swimsuit

No Nightgown (mistake – I counted on using the pajamas from my Singapore flight but they were much too heavy for SE Asia)

Laundry Mesh Bag – bag to keep dirty laundry in

Reading night light – small light that is useful if you’re sharing a room, or could be used on a train or plane

Sunscreen – absolutely essential!! 

DEET – recommended for Cambodia and Vietnam but we used only on a couple of days – probably depends on specific itinerary, time of year, etc.

Ear plugs (absolute necessity in Bangkok where the air conditioner was old and incredibly loud, but also required to allow sleep)

Maps

Sections of guide books (unless you’re visiting one place and want to bring the whole book)

Copies of prescriptions’ non-brand names – also email scanned file to yourself for easy retrieval en route

Copy of passport – also email scanned file to yourself for easy retrieval en route

Copy of credit cards (front and back) – also email scanned file to yourself for easy retrieval en route

Part of camera manual (basic stuff on 1st 10-15 pages)

DVD player

DVDs (4  yoga, qi gong, aerobics)

Corkscrew/bottle opener

Business cards or personal cards to give to new acquaintances

Extra Bag – foldup bag to hold stuff bought on the trip

Tote bag

Trail mix

Gum

Tea bags

Toothbrush

Shower cap

Small shampoo and conditioner

Mascara

Comb

Cleanser

Cotton pads – about 40 (bought more en route)

Band-aids – ½ dozen  (needed more)

Deodorant

Lipstick and brush

Stuff for hair – headbands, hair ties, bobby pins etc. (NO hair dryer)

Plastic bags – 2 or 3 for carrying wet stuff or just to separate items

Vitamins, calcium, etc. - bring enough of course plus spares for a few extra days – although you can get this stuff overseas too

Floss – this is 1 of those things that you sometimes forget but is such a relief to have

Prescription drugs that you can live without for several days

Adapters for cell phone charger that also worked for the DVD player

Pens (one with Scotch tape wrapped around it)

Band-aids (1 or 2)

For carryon

Lotion (small enough to pass security checkpoints)

Plastic utensils

Trail mix (in addition to the baggie inside the suitcase)

Prescription drugs that you absolutely have to take – bring enough of course for the whole trip plus spares for a few extra days

Underwear to change into if you’re taking a shower enroute

1 Book (mistake!! – I left my book on my 2nd flight and was left with NOTHING to read)
