A collection of tools by the window. The clay doll figures are from a fundraiser several years ago for one of Heather’s daughters. Heather made the tiny figures in casts whilst her then 16 year old daughter dressed them in clothes made from the silk provided by another artist. They sold these at fairs to raise money for a one year exchange to Italy.

Heather Chesterman is a potter and sculptor living in solitude in the depths of the Tapu Valley, Coromandel peninsula, New Zealand. She makes her work in this small studio next to her home which is surrounded by her garden. The garden is technically open to visitors but sees few as Heather often puts up the closed sign. She loves to have it to herself. The garden has a stone circle, a labyrinth and a native bush walk as well as many sculptures by different artists.

Heather sells elephants such as this one at a travel agency in Nelson, an art gallery in Wellington and a little art shop in Thames. She also reserves a few for her outdoor display area which remains, rain or shine.
