There are those who spend years, searching for a glimpse of their visions and there are those who find their dreams and desires inches away. Last year on the eve of the Italian spring I was one of them .
My school arranged a trip for Italy ,and being a student of history I urged my father to allow me the experience , he at first hesitant gave permission .
Excited and afraid for reasons unknown to me I began to search through everything I could find about the culture , due to which on the night of my flight I felt as If I was prepared for everything .I was wrong .
With my school mates I arrived at Rome, and drove to Pompeii . It was exactly like the picture of Europe I had in mind with those cafes out in the sun , clean air and empty wide roads but also very historical .I had the opportunity to see the ancient buildings and meet wonderful people , but I still did feel shaken or moved as I thought travelling to a foreign famous land would .
In the following days we head out to Rome . By this I did discover aspects not about the country but the girls that that came with me , so magnifying into them I learned about the differences between the average Pakistani and Italian . However I focused more on Rome , the Vatican and the army of artists who one would find near fountains . It was like a city crafted in marble or alabaster , the only thing that gave me difficulty was the food .It consisted religiously of cheese ,tomato sauce and olive oil .
After Rome we set forth for Florence , but we were only to spend a few hours there . Walking down the streets I realized that Pompeii was a bright yellow , Rome was a constant blue but I could give Florence just one color and all the important monuments were one road - down which I came to find the statue of David .It was then and there I felt that spark , in witness of this marble masterpiece Michelangelo spent three years to perfect .Inspired, I sat down somewhere near and wrote :
"Never have I ,with mortal eyes seen an angel ,but if they be then certainly in a form like splendid he ;
Never have I have mounted my feet at the doors of heaven , but indeed he has walked with holy steps before we came to meet ;
Never have my words of any words created such bliss that wonder would strike the heart like spring chimes, but If prayers have ever been answered he is the condition of that moment mastered ;
Our last stop was Venice, and it was a dream. Yet I was caught in yesterday ,I'll never forget that day , that moment .
