I have indelible impressions of my beloved place – Registan ensemble, in the city of great shadows and bright sun Samarqand. The memorabilia of mine about Registan start with the sun, clean sky and the dance of colors reflected on the walls of ancient madrasahs. Registan is translated as an area of sand form ancient Persian, the complex is full with Mirzo Ulugbek, Tillakori and Sherdor madrasahs.
As I stepped into the complex my steps led me to the Central Asian Renaissance, time lost its power in the present and turned into the sun clock of the ancient times. Unfortunately not all of the travelers around the world are aware of current destination which would probably change their perceptions about Uzbekistan, its past, today and future. I would recommend this spot for other nomads who want to witness the magnificence of Central Asian architecture and culture and bring out some suggestions.
First, start your daytrip from left (in case you face the ensemble) because the pay-desk is on the left, the complex is large enough for you to get confused;
Try not to buy anything from the shop next to the cash desk, let it be the last one to stop by, because inside the madrasahs you find more of shops with variety of souvenirs and national apparel to buy from;
As you start your journey with M.Ulugbek madrasah stop at the second shop, there you can order a piece of leather in a frame with your name written on it, by the time you finish your walk the frame will be ready;
The second madrasah, Tillakori will amuse you with its interior, patterns made of gold as it is translated, there is throne of the king, be careful it is not for making ‘selfie’ on it, visitors are not allowed to touch it;
In Tillakori you spend more time because inside there is a museum, so make sure you have enough charge in your camera;
In Sherdor madrasah you can do shopping for national apparel, such as skull caps and chapans national handmade coats;
If you choose the central area of a complex as the spot for photo shoot, you will have the ideal view of it;
Last but not least, try to take the best from Registan and express your gratefulness by sharing your impressions with other nomads.
That journey to ancient and ever young Registan felt and still does special to me as it revealed the actual truth about the perfection of our ancestors, their private and academic, social lives, it brought me a real proof that my Land was one of the cradles of the world’s civilization from the very early times.
