I work to travel and I travel to record the beautiful landscapes and wildlife that I see. Photography is about capturing scenes in a unique way that draws viewers in and poses questions; about noticing things that others who are there do not and creating a unique piece of art.
I have loved photography since a child learning to use an old film camera in the garden and impatiently waiting for the prints to process, then reading National Geographic and travel magazines to develop a wanderlust that needed to be satiated.
So when I was old enough I bought a cheap DSLR and backpacked round the world for 9 months- just me and my camera. To this day it is still the best year of my life. Looking back I can see that technically I wasn’t strong then but I did have composition skills.
Since then I have improved my technical skills by volunteering for many photo projects (friend's babies, businesses & events to recording shark populations with an underwater camera). I’m happy to help as I feel it is all building me into a better photographer
I am now saying “this is my time” and I must try my hardest to make this passion a daily reality. I really feel that this scholarship would help that.
