Coromandel Rain

I must apologies for misspelling Whakatane. That is where I was for a few days. The town is east of Tauranga and a small town between a river and some tall hills that used to be a fortified Maori site called a Pa. I planned a day long hike but when I woke up late I decided todo part of the track around the point to a beach and then I hitched back to town. I found a local fisherman to take me out fishing so I can fish better and maybe catch a fish some time. He made it look so easy but I was still getting frustrated. He gave me some more pointers and then I realized he was a world champ fly fisher.Of course it looked easy. That night I found a beach front campsite and watched the full moon rise over the ocean. Thornton beach is a small beach with a river mouth.this makes the fishing very good. I met some cool locals fishing as well but did not catch anything. That afternoon I went to Tauranga and climbed Mt. Manganui above the beach and harbor. Below we're people playing in the surf and far in the blue distance was the the stranded Reina that ran aground.i had a great afternoon there and the people watching was good. It was similar to a small hermosa beach. I met some friends later for a round of disc golf with some locals on an unmarked course. It was so much fun I met them again in the morning. I finally made it to the coromandel and immediately decided to stay for 2 nights at the campground. It was at the end of the main road and in a pine forest with a 3 min walk to the white sand beach. That first day was great and my campsite was in the back under the shade of a large tree. Late that night the rain started and did not let up until this morning. I read my books and cooked a great dinner of pea soup which was just the thing I needed. I will be going to SPLORE later this weekend I look forward to a good party and some great music with friends. I hope everyone is having a great weekend and are looking forward to a fun week of work. Pura Vida
