My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Friday, October 15, 2010 | 5 photos

Hello:)
My name is Oliver. I am a recent computer science graduate, currently working as a software test engineer. I can remember since a child that I loved capturing photos, but somehow my passion was hidden during high school/start of university. I also remember I have always been a very good observer. I can tell in many situations where I notice little details most people don't. And now even if I don't have my camera with me, I try to think of what I could capture in certain situations.

It was only a little over two years ago when I bought my first DSLR. I was studying abroad, and thought "I am visiting all these great places I should get a 'better' camera to get better photos..". I didn't imagine though, that it would quickly turn into such a great passion and interest.. I have learnt mostly from reading books and articles/blogs on the Internet and experimenting what I am curious about. I feel I am starting to create my own style.

I did my final year of university in Newcastle, UK. My flatmate is also very much into photography, I think the fact that we lived together helped us both explore and experiment much more.

These photos are all in the centre of Newcastle. They were taken using black and white film(I still shoot film regularly). I love to get the feeling of the places I visit. I always try to be like a local, never like a tourist. I spent many days walking around these streets and observing people and situations, I have a thing for people. I love to see the situations, how each person is in their own world. I got the feeling sometimes that I was watching from a window into the world, into this small part of the world. Even now in my hometown I try to do the same; to be an outsider trying to get and capture all the different moods from my surroundings.
