Enchanting Yogyakarta

I went to Yogyakarta—or Jogja—with my friends on January, 2013. Jogja is the capital city of Yogyakarta Special Region in Java, Indonesia. It was my very first independent trip without my parents. We started our trip by business train. The journey took about 5 hours before we arrived at Tugu Station in Jogja. The people here were so kind and helpful. They’ll offer you so many things like a tour around by pedicab so you don’t even have to plan anything. Pedicab is one of the most common transportation here besides the horse carriage, or we called it andong. Andong is bigger than pedicab, it can carry 4-6 people which pedicab is only 2 maximum.
On our second day we went to some museums. The first museum we visited was Museum Kreta (literally means carriage). The museum was really old and you could feel the entire different atmosphere from the outside museum. Every carriage in it has its own design and stories behind. There were even a carriage which had a 'sesajen' or offering beneath it because our guide said that carriage had a ‘guardian’.
Next destination was Beringin Kembar. It was actually just two big banyan trees in the middle of city’s park. The rumor said if you can walk through the space between those two big banyan trees with your eyes closed, your wish will definitely be fulfilled. So many people had already tried yet only a few of them who succeed. We ended up trying and sadly, none of us was succeed. From there we went by pedicab to Vredenburg Museum or Museum Benteng. Basicly, this museum told us many things about Indonesia in the past, especially the war details. Our visit to Museum Benteng ended our journey on the second day.
On our third day, we traveled quite far to Prambanan Temple which located approximately 17 km from Malioboro. We went there by Trans Jogja which was took 1 hour journey. The staff lent everyone who visited Prambanan Temple batik to wear. There were so many small temples which we could enter to. Every temple has its own story and it was really interesting to find out each of them.
Our Jogja’s trip ended the day after we went to Prambanan Temple. We got so many experiences and learn a lot about the culture and our own home country's past. For every backpacker out there, Jogja is definitely backpacker-friendly city with so many interesting things to offer. This city also has the facilities to make it easier for travelers to explore every single story they have. In summary, this city should be on your top list to visit!
