Moments that you just can't put a price tag on

I live in a small rural town in Kentucky, USA, plastered in bigotry, discrimination and ignorance yet one would not know this if they have had interaction with me. I don't let what others perceive to be obstacles to stand in the way of which I aspire. I dream to change the world, help others and make a difference in my community.
There is a quote "There are two ways of spreading light: be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." I believe wholeheartedly that I have the ability to do both. Traveling is in my blood. I want to experience the world, and be able to come back and inspire others to do the same. "Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends." By being awarded this scholarship I will be given, yet again, an opportunity to let my voice be heard and efface the wall of ignorance people have unfortunately built up. I can speak to and inspire many -- but a picture is a worth a thousand words; and will be able to embrace more people than I could ever fathom.
