My Scholarship entry - Bajo: the people who live on the reef

Some of my earliest experiences with photography were flipping through National Geographic magazines with my sisters planning out our future adventures and all the places we would visit. It sparked a curiosity in me to learn more about the world I live in and a drive to make a positive difference in that world.
I was an undergraduate student studying a double major in biology and art when I first started to take my photography more seriously. I took a year long entry level photography course where it was required to use a manual SLR camera with black and white film. It was one of the hardest courses I have ever taken, but by the end of that year I had fallen in love. I am currently finishing a post graduate certificate program in Environmental Visual Communication. The program has enabled me to strengthen my skills in photography and to use those skills as an effective storyteller.
What I hope to gain from this scholarship is a chance to further challenge myself and push my photography skills to the next level. I believe that photography ultimately helped shape the path I follow now and I want to use photography to inspire others in the same way.
