My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Colombia | Friday, September 9, 2011 | 5 photos

I have always been attracted to nature, the origin of things, the flow of the world after human intervention, and I let myself be surprised everyday by the shades on the sky, the shape of the plants, the tracks of the animals, the smells of the forest…. And above all I am attracted by the relationship we have as human beings with our surroundings. I believe primitive cultures have a clearer understanding of the basics of this relationship than we do, and as such they deserve our respect, gratitude and our commitment to keep them alive and make them known to the rest of the world.
These pictures were taken at the Tayrona National Park, located at the foothill of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. This park is known by being a magic place where both snow and sea can be seen, full of beautiful beaches, millennial paths and forests, thousands of eyes staring through the trees and branches, and above all by the huge rocks found all around. Rocks with volcanic origin that emerge on the beaches and find their own way to the forest, where indigenous people used them for paths, bridges, sewers, terraces to build their houses on, where architecture integrated itself with nature without destroying its environment.
Here we appreciate rocks in their natural state, surrounding the beaches, among the mountains, getting immersed in the forest in the shape of paths, and finally forming terraces where a whole ancestral culture was built and is now represented by a family of native Kowi. A clear example of ancestry, natural balance and respect for others.
The reason why I should win this is because I am passionate about the idea of getting to know the world I am surrounded by, and being able to communicate it through photography to those who might not have the opportunity of being there
