My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Friday, October 15, 2010 | 5 photos

These photos document my trip to Indonesia in September, 2010. I've been taking photographs for some time, and decided to buy a basic Nikon 3000 for the trip, with the intention of practicing my photography skills. I took photography for two years in high school, working primarily with negatives in the darkroom, and making small collections with varying themes such as construction sites, birds, and the local bush of the Ku-Ring-Gai region, a passion of mine, the area being the site of my indigenous ancestry. I'm currently at uni at UNSW, studying a BA in Indigenous Studies and Spanish and Latin American Studies, and intend to change to a combined degree BA/Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in photography, next year.
The photos I have chosen display different aspects of my trip to Indonesia and, I believe, different aspects of my skills as a photographer. Each of these particular photos were taken on the island of Bali. Both the fire truck and the night-time shot were taken during a large cremation ceremony. I chose the picture of the rice fields because I believe I did a good job both choosing the zoom and what would be in shot, as well as choosing appropriate camera settings.
