My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
China | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | flickr photos
Somebody told me that stones blossom too like flowers, but only on the inside. When I was still studying in university (Oriental studies) I dreamt about going to China, a far away place, another grey, unusually shaped stone. And then when I finally got a chance to step on its ground I was amazed by its beauty, strangeness and immensity. I could not imagine that it all could fit in a small grey "stone".
My interest in photography emerged when my father gave me his old analog camera. After I moved to China I have plunged into its local daily life, people's stories, traveled around on trembling buses and infinitely-long trains. This experience furthered my interest in travel photography, and also in anthropology - science of humanity, awakened ambition to see more, to research, to capture and to come closer.
I have learned about Travel Photography Scholarship with Jason Edwards by accident and feel very excited to apply. In the future I see myself as a documentary travel photographer, and getting the scholarship will mean getting a great valuable learning experience, as well as a great help in realizing my ambitions.
Sincerely,
Natalija Pestune
