Colors, landscapes and animals of Namibia

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Thursday, October 14, 2010 | 5 photos

My theme is the colours, landscapes and animals of Namibia. My photographs:
• are less busy in composition, they represent the sparseness of the Namibian desert
• convey temperature of the environment through colour
• demonstrate the inquisitive and aggressive nature of the native animals.

Why do I want to win ?
• develop my technique
• convey feelings, information (e.g. sustainable environment), provoke emotions in the viewer
• raise awareness
• experience the people and culture of Bhutan.

Why do I want to be a photographer ?
Through photography I share my experiences with others.

I appreciate feedback, I understand what people like and where I can improve.

When travelling I used to take 1 photograph per day, now I capture 300+ shots. It is my job to explore and absorb as much of a country as I can. When I return home and review my photographs, I am immediately taken back to the instant captured. Its like re-living my adventures all over.

Who am I ?
• 37 year old Civil Engineer who has travelled to 40+ countries
• Seeking a career change to fuel my passion for photography, travel and surfing
• Self taught photographer who gained knowledge through books, trial and error.

What do I want to learn from the scholarship ?
• Address gaps I have in technique
• Look at things differently
• Observe a professional so I can learn tricks and techniques to improve my approach
• Understand preparation requirements to optimise capture
• Understand how to use what equipment in which environment to achieve the best effect.

Where do I want my photography to go into the future ?
• technically proficient, renown travel and wildlife photographer
• explore and document the world using photography as the medium to share my experiences with others.
