I dream of far away places...

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Tuesday, September 13, 2011 | 5 photos

Think small. Dream Big.
I’m Kate and as soon as I saw this competition I knew I had to enter. This is my first small step towards achieving my big dream, combining travel with photography. As a communications student I am well versed in the art of language, but it is the power of the image that really inspires me to experience and capture the world. I am a long time sufferer of the travel bug, snapping up any opportunity to jet set off on another cultural escapade. However, it wasn’t until I travelled to Egypt that I really began to realise the powerful potential images have of revealing the stories you don’t often hear about, and the incredible people behind those stories. I went to Egypt expecting to rave about the sights, but came home raving about the people I had encountered. From drifting down the Nile on a felucca sail boat whilst playing UNO with a crew that barely spoke any English, or visiting the Nubian community just outside of Aswan for a traditional home cooked meal. It is my photos from this trip that I wish to share with you, as they remind me of my continual dreams of far away place, the little things that make you happy and laughter that cannot be contained.
