My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Worldwide | Wednesday, October 26, 2011 | 4 photos
These photos were taken during one of our photography group trips to an area within Metro Cebu-- one of the cities in the Philippines. We chose a certain slum area known for having a bad reputation of robbery and crime and managed to portray it in a different view. I'm an Advertising Arts student who is under a Basic Photography course and I believe photography is not just about capturing images, or freezing timeless moments, it's something more than that, its EXPERIENCE. Photography is actually experiencing that timeless moment yourself and sharing it, making others experience it as well. I'd have to say it's the story behind the photograph that says it all. I have learned a lot from my Photography course, and I can see that there's still room for more learning and growth. Photography has contributed to a lot of growth in my life because I only did realize how blessed we are with life when I began taking pictures and going to different places to experience life there. I would like to be a part of this journey of going to another place and experiencing what that place has to offer, what the people has to offer, and what I have to offer to them myself. Learning is a give and receive process and I expect to learn from the best photographer. After I graduate I plan on majoring in Photography, I am especially interested in Human Interest and Street Photography because they tend to see beyond the naked eye. I actually want to work for the media and travel to places such as Kenya, Africa, India, etc. and make documentations. I even want to make a documentation about the kids who are living in slum areas because I believe they deserve attention from all over the world. Thank you for this opportunity and more power to National Geographic!
