THE BOATS OF MAKOKO SLUMS IN LAGOS, NIGERIA

Kenya | Wednesday, September 1, 2010 | 5 photos

I work as a news photographer for Nation Media Group ltd which is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Although am in this position as freelance, i believe that learning is a process that never ends. Having an interest in my field of profession is a passion that i hold dear to my heart. And that is why i feel i really need to be considered for this particular programme!

Expereince teaches me that as a photographer, things that you see remain much more practical on our minds for a long time. Photography is a practical profession.

I am seriously thinking of doing documentary photography away from news photography. News photography becomes so boring at some stage in the profession. Documentary photography is exciting and needs alot of patience to deal with. I know this is what am going to learn on this project.
Last year, i was priviledged to be among 36 photographers chosen from across the african continent to take part in the Twenty Ten project, whci which was cordinated by World Press Photo. This was a project that aimed at training photojurnalists on the continent on several ways in our fast changing profession. I must say i learn alot. You can view some of the works that produced during this unfogettable training: www.africamediaonline.com

This is where i feel that i need to take this further. Am struggling to build a photo agency in my City. And as usual, money is always a major impediment...although with knowledge, one is bound to go even miles.

I am confident that i will be chosen as one of the candidates for this programme.

I look forward to your replies soon. Thanks you.
