My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Indonesia | Tuesday, May 28, 2013 | 5 photos

I am vigorously compelled by two things in life: the ability to travel and the creative control in being able to storytell those moments. More powerful than being able to construct words is the ability to capture ideas and people and bring it to life.

I have dreamed of working with National Geographic since I was seven and spent afternoons sitting atop our pile of Nat Geo magazines for hours on end. No terrain, no amount of pollution, no amount of altitude sickness can pose as a problem because I have the journalistic stubbornness and thick skinned patience (embedded in me during my time in Borneo, where I spent a week pushing a campaign from a floating village).

A lot of people will tell you they make the ideal candidate because they have the passion and a motivation that cannot be compared. I could tell you the same thing, but I find it rude to hand you something you cannot measure. Instead I'll tell you that I've had the experience it takes to put yourself in the middle of nowhere and the quick thinking you need when you find yourself immersed in the unknown - simply put, I sincerely find joy in getting lost.
