My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I am not a talker; I prefer to listen and observe. This is probably why I have always been interested in the visual arts.
As a child, I would always borrow my late father’s Polaroid 600 or 35mm point-and-shoot (the only cameras he would let me borrow) to take with me on school trips and on outings with friends. I wanted to capture every moment so that I could later recall and share them with others. I loved that one could learn and teach others about different places and cultures through visual media.
My affinity for images and storytelling led me to pursue filmmaking, but my interest in photography has never waned. Even as a filmmaker, my preferences lie in showing rather than telling. A raw, unadulterated image often speaks volumes over a page of dialogue.
Being able to work with and learn from Jason Edwards would be a great honor. Through this experience, I would like to hone my skills in still photography and have the opportunity to learn about various countries and cultures first hand. As a travel photographer, I want to share my experiences with those who are unable to experience it themselves and, hopefully, inspire them with my work the same way others have done for me.
