I will never forget the day I visited the beautiful city of Amsterdam. I spent the night before planning what to visit and what to explore and believe me Amsterdam can be called as the city of museums- The Van Gogh Museum, The Rijk Museum, The Anne Franke Hui and many more. A self-proclaimed Museum aficionado, I ended up visiting the Van Gogh and the Anne Frank Hui museums.
The first thing we did was to book our tickets for the Canal Cruise-If you wish to explore Amsterdam-it has to be on the canal, for the city has been literally built besides the canal. Its amazing sights, marvellous architecture & pleasant weather is best explored on the canals. Hop-On and Hop-Off ,walk around and hop-in again. It was so much fun exploring the city on a boat-which was more of a floating restaurant than a boat.
After skirting the mild waves of the canals while floating around in the boat, we got down at the Rembrandt Square boat stop and were just ambling around, taking in the beautiful sights of the Amsterdam city, just to find out that my friend forgot his phone on one of the boats. But later found that the phone had been safely deposited at the Amsterdam Central station office. All this took just a couple of mins, truly remarkable Dutch hospitality and brilliant use of technology, must say.
Next, we visited Anne Frank museum-as the name suggests, it was the infamous home of one of the unfortunate victims of the WW-II Holocaust-Miss Anne Frank. It took us more than an hour to wait in queue to get in the house, the excitement among visitors was quite palpable and the mild drizzle made our wait a pleasant one. Though not in our plans initially, we were glad we visited the memorial, it was a tour that really moved me, for every corner of the home was replete with the atrocities inflicted on the poor family and how they fought against all the adversities, only to go down fighting in the end.
Evening lights, the huge Tussaud's museum, the vast expanse and historical architecture all made the central square a sight to behold. It was an experience beyond expression. I just stood there for a couple of minutes and was completely mesmerized by the activity around. I just wanted to take in the beauty of this city as much as I could for this was a dream come true, a dream that I had held onto for a long time. Amsterdam is a city that is always full of life and gave me an experience I would cherish for times to come.
