My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

We wandered around there for ages taking pictures of the gardens and the monuments. I found his old gentleman sitting in a temple area looking very regal & like he was mediating so I endeavoured not to disturb but on closer inspection he was reading the newspaper. It looked so funny but I guess this was his home and despite all of us invading tourists this was his time to relax. The fact is this temple region in essence is a holy place for these deeply religious people but their lively hood depends on the thousands of tourists who flock to see them like an attraction. This is their lot in life and they share it with many on a daily basis.

The Mother of the small boy was not too far away leaving her offerings for a successful and plentiful day at their family shrine. It was mid-morning and the tourists were now arriving by the busload. Not too long after this shot was taken there was much coaxing by mother to her young son to smile at the tourists and get on with his job of selling his wares. It’s a hard life in these small communities everyone has to work

Anyone who has ever visited Bali I am sure will tell you that with every Temple there is the opportunity to shop. It is no coincidence that a little market is either at the entry or exit to all significant sites. This is how these small family communities make ends meet. No pressure to buy here though,this little village looked very well to do; I would even say bordering on commercial. These hats just sung out to me to take their picture.
