My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

These photos were clicked when I went on a 'Heritage Walk' in the Old City of Ahmedabad. It was a magical experience, as I was able to silently connect to the people belonging to that world with my camera. The 5 pictures in this set capture people who represent aspects of their world and community: faith, livelihood, faded glory, a sense of belonging, and art. It was pure connect as I walked through the streets silently and soaked in the unsaid stories that sprang out of unexpected places.
I took to clicking pictures (not photography!) about 3-4 years ago. I sold a couple of my stock options to buy my first digital camera--a Canon Powershot A540. I remember that being one of the most exciting days of my life..and I never looked back after that! Most of the decent digital pictures that I have clicked so far have been with my Canon. Recently, I upgraded to a Nikon D90, and have been trying to learn the features and techniques of the art with it: work-in-progress!
I may not be well-versed with technicalities, but I know that connecting to the world with my lens is a passion for me: almost compulsive! Some of the pictures I am proud of are the result of pure connect and conviction vs technicality. I hope to learn the art better, so that I can merge the two and take my passion to the next level. I think this scholarship will be a great learning and exposure for me in that regard.
