My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Photography has allowed me to show others the world through my lens. It pushes me to look for the obscure details in everyday situations and inspires me to discover new perspectives. Throughout my four years at university studying journalism, you could find me in the school’s small and modest studio during the weekends with my photo teacher, whom I now consider a dear friend. His classes were rich with empowerment, pushing us to believe that if we carried our cameras with us at all times and trusted in ourselves, we could join the ranks of photographic legends like Jason Edwards, Steve McCurry and the ghost of Kevin Carter.
While the travel aspect of this competition is certainly attractive, the mentorship by Jason Edwards is what really speaks to me. I love to learn and grow and the opportunity to work alongside such talent would be the highlight of my life.
In my dreams, I’m traveling the world on photo and writing assignments discovering the unknown and sharing a snapshot of it with the rest of the world. Real life, however, casts a different picture. In the same token, life has a funny way of working out and maybe, just maybe, this is my moment.
Your wanderlust Canadian.
