Stony corals off the south western edge of the Gordon Reef. Coral reefs are particularly sensitive to man-made changes to their environment. Of particular concern to the Gordon Reef is the construction of the proposed Saudi-Egypt causeway which would release more sediment and pollutants into the Tiran Straits. The disruption to local fish populations caused by the actual causeway would further stress this fragile ecosystem and potentially lead to irreversible damage.
