The Australian Bush in 5 Photos

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Australia | Friday, December 21, 2012 | 5 photos

Being a new starter in Photography,Iam a 27 year old IT student with a major in digital media and keen to explore the natural world and not the human built world, we are surrounded by it in our everyday lives and it is nice to have an escape to nature. I have decided to choose Australia as my setting for my photo folio. It is a unique continent encompassing desert, rainforest, savannah, bush, and cityscapes. For this reason I chose my sourrounding areas to take my photos and take them with my phone, i dont have any fancy camera equipment and I love the natural beauty of nature photos. What is it about 'the bush' that is so special to Australians? The bush has an iconic status in Australian life and features strongly in any debate about national identity, especially as expressed in Australian literature, painting, popular music, films and foods,The bush was something that was uniquely Australian and very different to the European landscapes familiar to many new immigrants. The bush was revered as a source of national ideals by the likes of Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson. Romanticising the bush in this way was a big step forward for Australians in their steps towards self-identity.
