My Scholarship entry - Everyday Life in the Slums

Thailand | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 5 photos

I have recently graduated university with a Bachelor of Digital Media, Majoring in Photo Media. During the degree I have worked on projects locally and internationally.

I attended a volunteer run expedition through South Africa and Mozambique exploring culture and society. This experience made me realise first hand, what underprivileged communities struggle with on a day-to-day basis. I also completed an internship with conflict photographer, Jack Picone in Bangkok. Most recently I have been announced as the youngest finalist for the National Portrait Prize in Australia.

These experiences have honed my visual storytelling skills and made me more determined than ever to continue pursuing documentary stories on issues that are often overlooked or misunderstood. I am always looking for new adventures, always willing to takes risks and chances to learn.

With this scholarship I hope to continue to build my visual language skills whilst getting real world experience in the field and being taken out of my comfort zone. I have an invested interested in global issues and believe strong images can address these matters and start much needed dialogue in the local and broader communities.
